The variety was obtained at the Sicilian Cereal Culture Station by crossing Senatore Cappelli and Eiti 6. The use of a Palestinian form allowed for a reduction in plant stem height, which provided better lodging resistance compared to traditional varieties of that time.

The plant was characterized by early heading and maturity, and also outperformed the Senatore Cappelli variety in yield, becoming one of the most cultivated varieties in Italy in the 1960s and 1970s. However, in terms of grain quality and pasta dough properties, Capeiti 8 was inferior to the Cappelli variety.

The variety was actively used in breeding programs to create new varieties, including Maristella, Nuragus, Ichnusa, Hymera, Trinakria, and Appulo. Currently, it is considered a valuable genetic resource for improving crop adaptation and productivity.
