The variety Francesella, also known under the names Francesa, Francisa, Franzisa, Francescona or Franzesa, is an ancient local variety of durum wheat, variety leucurum. It originates from Sicily, where it was historically grown in the provinces of Caltanissetta and Catania.

The plant is a mid-maturing, tall-growing variety, reaching a height of 130–140 cm. The ear is light-colored, spindle-shaped, more than 10 cm long, with awns equal in length to the ear. The grain is large, elongated, with a characteristic vitreous texture.

The variety was traditionally used for the production of pasta. Due to the characteristics of ancient landrace breeding, it is adapted to hilly and mountainous terrain conditions, however, modern data on resistance to diseases or lodging is limited.
