The variety is an ancient local cultivar (leucurum), historically cultivated in the provinces of Enna and Catania. The plant is characterized as mid-early with a growing season of about 123 days and reaches a height of 130–140 cm.

The spike is long (over 10 cm), light-colored, spindle-shaped and non-compact, with long light-colored awns. The stem is flexible and light-colored. The grain is large, vitreous, slightly elongated, with a translucent red texture.

The variety is adapted to the conditions of hilly terrain and light soils. At present, it is considered almost extinct and is of interest as an object of historical study.
