The variety belongs to the half-highbush blueberry category and is a hybrid combining the frost resistance of lowbush blueberry with the fruit size of highbush blueberry. The plant was created as part of a breeding program aimed at adapting the crop to cold climatic conditions.

In scientific literature, the Arne variety is more often mentioned as an object of genetic collections or a parent component in the breeding of other varieties, for example, Aino. The variety is included in studies on evaluating blueberry productivity on various types of soils, including peat and mineral soils.
