3309 Couderc is a rootstock variety with low to medium vigor and relatively early cane ripening. Shoot length is approximately 2–2.5 meters. Cuttings of this variety are characterized by high rooting capacity.
The variety possesses high resistance to the root form of phylloxera, downy mildew, powdery mildew, and late blight, while showing weak resistance to the leaf form of phylloxera. It is susceptible to anthracnose, nematodes, and is sensitive to viral diseases.
The plant is well adapted to sandy, loamy, and clay-limestone soils, as well as acidic soils. At the same time, the variety is sensitive to water stress, waterlogging, and high lime content: it withstands up to 20% total limestone and 11% active lime.
It is used for creating grafted commercial vineyards and possesses good affinity with most European grape varieties, although in some cases difficulties with graft union formation have been noted.
