The variety originates from southern France and has been known since the 16th century. The name Araignan is associated with the presence of fine hairs on the underside of the leaves. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth and a semi-erect bush habit. The variety is rare and was historically included among those authorized for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

Bunches are medium-sized, compact, and conical in shape. Berries are medium-sized, oval, and golden-white in color, sometimes with a pinkish hue when ripe. The flesh is juicy and fleshy with a neutral taste. The variety is late-ripening, characterized by medium yield, requires short pruning, and is relatively drought-tolerant.

The plant is susceptible to grey mold, powdery mildew, and magnesium deficiency, and possesses medium resistance to fungal diseases. It prefers warm and well-lit sites. Wines from this variety are characterized by a fruity profile, finesse, and moderate acidity.
