Vines are characterized by high vigor and semi-erect shoot habit. Leaves are medium or large, five-lobed, with weak lobing. Clusters are large, cylindro-conical, winged, and of medium density. Berries are large, round or slightly oval, with thick skin and a waxy bloom; flesh is juicy, with a neutral-sweet flavor.
The variety belongs to early maturity groups. It is distinguished by high drought tolerance, though in unfavorable seasons it may be susceptible to downy mildew and powdery mildew. Thick berry skin provides protection against adverse weather conditions. The variety is prone to sugar accumulation at low acidity and contains a higher amount of tannins in the skin compared to other white varieties.
Used primarily for the production of dry white wines and as a component of Marsala. Wines possess an aromatic profile with notes of citrus, yellow fruits, herbs, and almond. Due to high tannin content, skin maceration may be applied. The variety exhibits regional differences in characteristics.
