Variety description

The variety is characterized by high vine vigor. Bunches are medium, pyramidal in shape, medium density or loose. Small rounded berries of dark blue, almost black color are covered with a thick bloom and have thick skin. The pulp is juicy with a harmonious taste; the juice is intensely colored.

The variety has medium resistance to downy mildew. It is sensitive to frost, Botrytis cinerea, and flower/ovary drop under adverse weather conditions during flowering. For cultivation, trellis-supported systems such as Guyot, Sylvoz, or GDC with short or mixed pruning are recommended.

Ancellotta is used in winemaking for blending, imparting deep color, structure, and softness to wines, as well as in varietal vinification to create dark fruity wines. Due to the high concentration of pigments, the berry extract is also used as a natural food coloring.
