The variety originates from the municipality of Muniesa, Aragon region. It was historically considered nearly extinct; it has currently been revived and introduced into cultivation as an organic variety.
The grapes are grown at an altitude of 790–800 meters above sea level on loamy and clay soils. The variety is adapted to a cold and dry climate with strong winds.
It belongs to black-skinned varieties and is characterized by large berries and dense clusters. The wines are distinguished by their ruby-red color and aromas of strawberry, raspberry, caramel, and toffee.
