The variety is self-fertile due to its bisexual flowers. It demonstrates sensitivity to fungal diseases characteristic of the Vitis vinifera species, including downy mildew, powdery mildew, and Botrytis, and is also prone to chlorosis and frost damage.

Wines from this grape are distinguished by high acidity and a pronounced aromatic profile, due to which the variety is sometimes used in blends. In commercial viticulture, the importance of the variety is assessed as low, although small areas of plantings are found in Canada and the USA.
