The variety is a wine grape used for creating a wide range of white wines, from dry to dessert, and is also used in blends to improve aromatic properties. The plant is a vigorous vine requiring mandatory training on a trellis.
Marastina is a late-ripening variety characterized by stable high yields. Under favorable conditions, the variety accumulates a significant amount of sugar, and the finished wines are full-bodied with aromas of peach, apricot, quince, and vanilla with moderate or low acidity levels.
The variety is susceptible to a number of fungal diseases, including powdery mildew, downy mildew, as well as grey and sour rot, which necessitates careful canopy management of the grapevine.
