The variety is indigenous to the Imotski valley in Croatia. It has the synonyms Tvrdac, Tvrdorijez, Žutac. It is intended for winemaking; the wines produced are characterized by a golden-yellow color and a mild aroma.
It belongs to late-ripening varieties, maturing at the end of September. It is distinguished by high yield, requires proper vine training, and prefers sandy soils. The variety possesses intraspecific variability, in connection with which work is underway on clonal selection to improve agronomic characteristics.
