The term Kypreiko kokkino denotes a group of local red grape varieties grown in Cyprus. It is not a bred variety but a traditional autochthonous population, the characteristics of which may vary as different vines are grouped under this name.
The grapes are classified as wine varieties and are used for the production of local red wines for daily consumption. Confusion may arise in the literature with the name Kypreiko, which denotes a different variety, and the prefix kokkino, meaning red, is often added to various grape varieties.
