The variety originates from the Laconia region on the Peloponnese peninsula. It is a wine grape variety used for the production of aromatic dry white wines, as well as a component in dessert wines with the Protected Designation of Origin "Monemvasia-Malvasia". The name of the variety reflects its characteristic quince aroma.
The bud burst and ripening period is characterized as medium; harvesting usually takes place in the first half of September. The variety is characterized by low yields. For cultivation, the use of trellis systems, in particular, bilateral cordon, and clay-limestone soils are recommended.
Wines from this variety have a bright yellow color and a complex aromatic profile, including notes of quince, citrus, white flowers, and mineral shades. The beverages are characterized by good acidity, a rounded body, and an intense aftertaste.
