The variety is of Greek origin and has been historically grown on the island of Crete. Its name contains the designation «N», indicating dark-colored, black, or blue berry skins.

Ladikino N. is exclusively a wine variety, which has traditionally been used in the production of Malvasia-type wines. Currently, the variety is rarely cultivated and is found mainly in local vineyards on Crete.
