Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to Central Italy. The name "Lacrima" translates as "tear," which is associated with a characteristic feature of the berries: as they ripen, their thin skin cracks, and drops of juice exude from it. The berries are blue-black in color, medium in size, and have an elongated shape. The vine is described as low-growing.

The variety is considered delicate; it is susceptible to powdery mildew, Botrytis, and spider mite infestation. Hilly terrain and well-drained sandy or clay soils are preferred for cultivation. Excessive rainfall during the ripening period provokes berry cracking.

The grapes possess pronounced aromatic properties with notes of roses, violets, and berries. The wines produced from it are distinguished by a deep color and moderate acidity, but contain relatively few tannins, which is why they are typically consumed young.
