Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to northern Italy and is genetically related to the Teroldego variety. The plant is characterized by vigorous vine growth and perfect flowers. The leaves are medium-sized, 3–5-lobed, matte on the upper side, and have whitish tomentose pubescence on the underside.

The clusters are medium-sized, elongated, with varying density. The berries are small or medium, black-brown in color, with intensely colored juice. The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group and is characterized by unstable, predominantly low yields.

Wines from Lagrein possess a deep dark color, high acidity, and aromas of plum, cherry, blackcurrant, and violet. The variety is demanding in terms of care, and its resistance to diseases and frosts is typical for Western European varieties.
