The variety is of Italian origin and belongs to the species Vitis vinifera. The berries are characterized by a yellow-green skin color, which is reflected in the "B" (bianco) marking in the variety name. The flower type is hermaphroditic.
Historically, the variety was used mainly for fresh consumption, and less frequently in winemaking as part of blends. It is found in various regions of Italy, in particular in Sicily. There are difficulties in identifying the variety due to the presence of synonyms and confusion with other local varieties.
