The grape variety Pátria was created as part of the Georgikon breeding program under the leadership of Károly Bakonyi. Breeding work was carried out at the experimental station in Cserszegtomaj, which is part of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
This variety is classified as a white wine grape. Official recognition of the variety took place in 2002, after which it was entered into the National Variety Register of Hungary.
