The use of low-growing Dianthus varieties to create decorative, dense clumps that require a specific agrotechnical regimen focusing on drainage and aeration of the root collar.

Compact forms of Dianthus capable of maintaining their bush shape without the additional staking typical of cut flower varieties are used to create borders. Priority is given to low-growing species, such as Dianthus plumarius, which form dense, glaucous-green cushions.

A key requirement for the agrotechnical background is ensuring excellent drainage and air circulation. Mulching is not permitted in border plantings, and watering is carried out strictly at the base to prevent rot and leaf spots. Maintaining decorative appeal includes removing withered flowers and periodically rejuvenating the bushes through division or cuttings.
