For successful cultivation of lilies in borders, it is necessary to observe the conditions of "heads in the sun, feet in the shade." Shading the soil and the lower part of the stem is achieved by planting groundcover plants, which also prevents the root system from overheating. Due to the sensitivity of lilies to moisture stagnation, border compositions require the installation of individual drainage, such as creating a sand bed or using raised beds.

In borders, it is recommended to use low-growing varieties 40–50 cm in height, planting bulbs in groups of 4–5 to form a visual cluster. Unlike standard border crops, lilies should not be dug up or subjected to deep soil cultivation, as they grow in one place for up to 5 years. After flowering, it is necessary to preserve the stems until they turn completely yellow, which ensures nutrient supply to the bulbs but requires consideration in landscape planning due to a temporary decline in ornamental value.
