Anthurium spathe size

In the methodology of Anthurium (Anthurium Schott) variety testing, the primary quantitative indicator is the spathe size, as the visually perceived flower consists of an inflorescence comprising a spadix and a bract (spathe). Measurements are taken on fully formed inflorescences at the stage when the spadix becomes sticky before anther dehiscence.

The spathe length and width parameters are recorded in centimeters or millimeters and are used for classifying varieties in the DUS testing system. The spathe size is a key indicator of market class and ornamental value; however, its metrics may vary under the influence of light conditions, plant age, and the level of agrotechnical stress.
