During Anthurium variety testing, height is measured in centimeters from the surface of the substrate to the highest point of the plant or the flower stalk. In a number of calibration methodologies, an averaged indicator of plant height and width is used to assess habit, which is then converted into a point scale.

In commercial cultivation, height determines pot spacing density and the selection of container volume to ensure root system stability. For pot plant types, breeding is aimed at compactness, although mature specimens of types such as Anthurium andreanum can reach 70–90 cm. Excessive height combined with insufficient flower stalk strength is considered an undesirable breeding trait due to the risk of losing ornamental value.
