Potted Anthurium Cultivation

Industrial cultivation of anthurium is based on the use of in vitro propagation material supplied in substrate plugs. Unlike single-stem crops, multiple plants are planted simultaneously in a single pot to achieve the desired commercial appearance. Breeding efforts are focused on developing specialized groups, such as compact Andrecola varieties and large-flowered Andre group varieties, which are adapted for interior environments.

The root system of the anthurium is highly sensitive to aeration, necessitating the use of highly porous media based on bark, pumice, coconut chips, and peat. The production technology requires maintaining air humidity at 70–80% and a temperature range of 20–28°C. Unlike seasonal crops, anthurium is capable of year-round flowering, but it requires a precise nutrient balance, as excess nitrogen negatively affects bud initiation, and light deficiency leads to a degradation of decorative properties.
