The suitability of Anthurium for cutting is determined by the attainment of the full maturity phase, during which the spadix becomes covered with pollen. Adhering to the harvest timing ensures high vase life of the inflorescences for two to three weeks.

For Anthurium andreanum, the stage of readiness for cutting requires the full opening of the spathe and the onset of the staminate phase of spadix development, when it begins to be covered with pollen. A mandatory condition is sufficient firmness of the upper part of the peduncle, as premature cutting before these criteria are met leads to rapid loss of turgor and wilting.

The vase life of the crop depends on storage conditions and sensitivity to external factors. At temperatures below 15 °C, the spathe discolors, and exposure to ethylene triggers premature wilting. Given the susceptibility of the tissues to mechanical damage, which induces blackening, handling of cut flowers requires maintaining a temperature regime of at least 10–15 °C and air humidity of up to 95 %.
