Glycine max (L.) Merr.
A fungal disease of soybean caused by the oomycete Phytophthora sojae, manifesting as seed decay, damping-off, and root and stem rot. It is characterized by the presence of race-specific Rps resistance genes and high variability of pathogen pathotypes.
In the reference 61 varieties crop Soybean, where this is mentioned in the description.
The pathogen Phytophthora sojae infects soybean at any stage of development, causing seedling blight or the appearance of necrotic lesions on the root system and chocolate-brown cankers at the base of the stem. Destruction of the roots leads to yellowing and wilting of actively growing plants even under adequate moisture conditions.
Genetic protection is based on the use of Rps genes, which provide race-specific resistance. Breeding programs utilize Rps1a, Rps1c, Rps1k, Rps3a, and Rps6 alleles; however, their efficacy depends on the regional composition of the pathogen population. Identification of pathotypes is carried out through inoculation on differential cultivars with known Rps genes.
