Diseases
Rubus idaeus L.
A dangerous disease of the root system and crown area of raspberries caused by the pathogen Phytophthora rubi. It is characterized by root destruction, delayed spring growth, and specific cane wilting.
In the reference 21 varieties crop Red raspberry, where this is mentioned in the description.
The primary causal agent of Phytophthora root rot of raspberry is the species Phytophthora rubi. Previously, this pathogen was classified as a variety of the strawberry pathogen; however, modern molecular genetic studies have confirmed its independent status. In some cases, crop infection may also be caused by other species of oomycetes, including Phytophthora gonapodyides, P. cryptogea, P. citricola, and P. megasma.
The clinical presentation of the disease is manifested by poor cane emergence in the spring and delayed bud break. The crown area of the canes develops a reddish-brown hue, while the root system loses its fine feeder roots and undergoes necrosis. During the summer period, sudden wilting is observed, and after harvest, the leaves turn red, curl, develop marginal necrosis, and the shoot tips bend into a hook shape.
