Pot chrysanthemum cultivation is based on selecting cultivars with natural compactness and a well-developed root system adapted to small pot volumes. The primary forms include globular multiflora and specialized large-flowered types. Agrotechnics include mandatory apical pinching to form a dense crown and disbudding, which are performed at strict developmental stages of the plant.

Production is a controlled process where photoperiod management allows for year-round flowering. Plants are planted in highly porous peat substrates and provided with intensive nutrition via fertigation, which is ceased when flower buds show color. Watering requires high precision, as excess moisture triggers root rot, while a deficit leads to root system degradation.

Unlike open-field cultivation, pot chrysanthemums require a mandatory dormant period, during which plants are cut back to stumps and kept at a temperature of +2 to +8°C. This cycle is necessary for the restoration of vital functions and preparation for subsequent flowering.
