Clementine Container Culture

Citrus clementina hort. ex Tanaka

A method of growing clementines in a limited volume of soil, allowing for control over the tree's habit and ensuring plant mobility to maintain the temperature regime required for fruiting.

In the reference 10 varieties crop Clementine, where this is mentioned in the description.

Clementine container culture involves the use of formative pruning to keep crown dimensions within 1–1.5 meters, which is necessary to compensate for the tree's natural growth potential of up to 8 meters. The substrate for clementines requires a high level of drainage using perlite or bark, as the root system is extremely sensitive to waterlogging typical of closed containers.

An important feature is regular repotting with a gradual increase in pot volume to avoid souring of the unoccupied substrate. The container serves as a tool for the seasonal relocation of the plant: moving it outdoors during warm periods and transferring it to a protected location when there is a risk of temperatures falling below the critical values for clementine fruiting.
