Forage use of rutabaga

Brassica napus L. var. napobrassica (L.) Rchb.

Rutabaga is a valuable cold-tolerant forage crop with a pronounced galactagogue effect, rich in easily digestible carbohydrates and essential amino acids.

In the reference 25 varieties crop Rutabaga, where this is mentioned in the description.

Rutabaga surpasses fodder beet in adaptability to cool climates, which allows it to be grown in northern regions, the Urals, and Siberia. The crop is characterized by lower soil fertility requirements, yet it requires sufficient moisture. Morphologically, forage rutabaga is distinguished by the presence of a developed neck and more often has yellow flesh, which is typical for specialized high-yielding varieties.

The composition of the feed is dominated by monosaccharides, and in terms of lysine, methionine, and arginine content, rutabaga surpasses other root crops. The presence of steroid saponins contributes to strengthening the immunity of animals. Due to the presence of mustard oils, the feed has a specific taste, so introduction into the diet requires gradual acclimatization of livestock over a week.

Usage technology involves chopping the root crops to prevent choking in animals and to ensure dosing accuracy. For forage purposes, it is strictly unacceptable to use frozen or rotten produce, as this causes digestive disorders in farm animals.
