Dactylis glomerata is a tall-growing grass that begins vegetation in early spring and is capable of maintaining productivity for 8–10 years. Due to the intensive development of the root system, where each shoot forms 8–14 robust roots, the crop efficiently absorbs water and nutrients, ensuring high yields of green mass.
High nutritional value and good palatability for livestock are achieved only when harvested before the heading stage. If allowed to overgrow, forage quality declines sharply. The crop is extremely aggressive towards other species in the sward, tolerates flooding poorly, and thins out under unfavorable overwintering conditions.
