Cultivation
Sinapis alba L.
White mustard is used as an early-maturing, high-protein forage crop that requires strict regulation of harvesting time and mixing with other plants.
In the reference 16 varieties crop White mustard, where this is mentioned in the description.
The green mass of white mustard is characterized by a rapid growth rate, reaching readiness for feeding 30–35 days after emergence. It possesses high nutritional value, containing about 11 feed units per 100 kg of mass, and is rich in protein, sugars, fiber, carotene, and ascorbic acid.
Due to the presence of glycosides and mustard oil, the concentration of which increases with age, the crop must be mowed at the budding stage for green fodder and at the mass flowering stage for silage. White mustard is not used in pure form, but rather introduced into diets only as part of mixtures with legumes or cereal crops, which allows for balancing the composition and facilitating the ensiling process.
