Forage use of red clover

Trifolium pratense L.

Red clover is the primary legume crop in the Non-Chernozem zone, valued for its high protein content, ability for symbiotic nitrogen fixation, and high dry matter yield of up to 10–12 tons per hectare.

In the reference 236 varieties crop Red clover, where this is mentioned in the description.

The agronomic classification of red clover includes early-maturing two-cut forms that develop in the spring-type manner, and late-maturing one-cut forms with a winter-type development pattern and increased winter hardiness. The crop surpasses cereal grasses in the content of essential amino acids and digestible protein, achieving productivity without the application of nitrogen fertilizers.

Due to the high fragility of leaves during drying, haylage production is preferred to preserve nutritional value. In crop rotations, red clover serves as a significant source of nitrogen for subsequent crops, surpassing other legumes, such as alfalfa, in adaptability to the conditions of the Non-Chernozem zone.
