Kiwifruit storability

Actinidia chinensis Planch.

Kiwifruit storability is the ability of the fruit to maintain flesh firmness and marketability under controlled microclimate conditions at temperatures from 0 to +1°C. This indicator is defined by the duration of the calendar period during which a cultivar is suitable for storage and sale.

Kiwifruit cultivars vary in storage duration: high-storability cultivars, such as Hayward and Bruno, are capable of maintaining quality for up to six months. The storability index dictates the agrotechnical cultivation strategy. For cultivars with low storage capacity, late-stage harvesting is practiced to minimize losses during distribution. High storability of cultivars allows for long-term cold storage, ensuring flexible logistics and the expansion of market reach.
