A fungal disease of emmer wheat caused by the pathogen Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici. The crop serves as a key source of genetic resistance to the pathogen for other wheat species.

The causal agent of powdery mildew on emmer wheat (Triticum turgidum subsp. dicoccum) is the fungus Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici. The disease manifests as a characteristic white or grayish coating on leaves, stems, and spikes, which, in cases of severe disease development, leads to premature chlorosis and tissue necrosis.
Emmer wheat is of particular value for breeding as a carrier of specific Pm resistance genes. These include the loci Pm4 (alleles Pm4a, Pm4b), Pm5 (alleles Pm5a, Pm5b), as well as the genes Pm68, Pm71, PmDM8, and PmL709. Evaluation of resistance in emmer wheat accessions is conducted using standard isolates of the pathogen common to the genus Triticum.
