Oryza sativa L.
The seeding rate for rice is 7.0–9.5 million viable seeds per 1 ha to obtain 280–300 panicles per 1 m². The rate is adjusted based on low field germination, varietal tillering characteristics, and the planned level of mineral nutrition.
In the reference 28 varieties crop Rice, where this is mentioned in the description.
One of the key characteristics of rice is its low field germination rate of 25–35%, which requires increased seeding rates to establish the target stand density. To ensure a yield of 8 t/ha or more, the optimal density is considered to be 280–300 panicles per 1 m², which corresponds in weight to 250–300 kg of seeds per hectare.
When selecting the rate, biological traits of the varieties are taken into account, including their capacity for productive tillering, as well as the chosen sowing technology, which determines seeding depth and seed distribution uniformity. The agronomic background and nitrogen fertilizer doses also require adjustment of the rate: excessive density leads to lodging, disease susceptibility, and reduced grain quality, whereas an insufficient stand density does not allow for the full realization of the variety's potential.
