Variety traits
Diascia Link & Otto
The flowering characteristics of Diascia are assessed using qualitative categories, which depend on temperature conditions and agrotechnical practices. Standardized quantitative indicators for these traits do not exist.
In the reference 9 varieties crop Twinspur, where this is mentioned in the description.
The abundance of Diascia flowering is characterized as profuse, whereby the density of flowers on the shoots is capable of completely obscuring the foliage. The duration of the flowering period spans from late spring until the first autumn frosts.
Flowering activity is sensitive to temperature: at values above +40°C or when roots overheat, abundance decreases. Agrotechnical regulation includes pruning spent shoots to stimulate new flushes and the use of potassium fertilizers, as an excess of nitrogen suppresses flowering in favor of vegetative growth.
