Diascia Inflorescence

Diascia produces terminal racemes in which flowers open sequentially from the base to the apex. A characteristic feature of the crop is the presence of 10 to 16 flowers per inflorescence. When evaluating varietal traits, the raceme length is typically 10–11 cm, and plant parameters are assessed based on the middle section of the inflorescence.

Agrotechnical practices are directly linked to inflorescence development. To maintain aesthetic appeal and stimulate repeat flowering, deadheading is employed, which prevents excessive vegetative growth. Inflorescence quality is highly dependent on environmental factors: low light leads to loose flower clusters, while excessive nitrogen fertilization suppresses their development in favor of foliage growth.
