Gladiolus lodging is caused by tall growth, the wind resistance of fan-shaped leaves, and the heavy weight of the inflorescence. It is a critical breeding trait that reduces decorative value and the marketability of cut flowers under windy conditions or excessive nitrogen nutrition.
