Secale cereale L.
Rye productivity is defined as the aggregate of quantitative yield structure parameters, including plant density, tillering, and spike characteristics. This indicator is crucial for breeding and variety testing, reflecting the adaptive potential of a variety under various cultivation conditions.
In the reference 39 varieties crop Rye, where this is mentioned in the description.
To assess rye productivity, a complex of direct structural indicators is used: the number of plants per unit area, productive tillering, ranging from 4–8 to 90 shoots per plant, and spike parameters, including grain set and grain weight. An important genetically determined trait is the 1000-grain weight, which in tetraploid varieties can reach 50–55 g.
Modern rye varieties possess a yield potential ranging from 5–8 t/ha to 11 t/ha under favorable conditions. When assessing productivity, selection indices reflecting spike potential and linear density are also taken into account, as well as indicators of a variety's stability and adaptive capacity to contrasting weather conditions.
Realizing high productivity potential requires balanced agronomic practices, as excessive nitrogen application when attempting to increase grain weight can lead to lodging due to changes in culm morphology. High-yielding varieties require consideration of the correlation between spike structure, plant height, and lodging resistance to maintain production efficiency.
