Parsley Septoria leaf spot

Petroselinum crispum (Mill.) Nyman ex A. W. Hill

A fungal disease of parsley caused by the highly specialized pathogen Septoria petroselini. It manifests as necrotic spots with black pycnidia, leading to the death of leaf and petiole tissues.

In the reference 9 varieties crop Parsley, where this is mentioned in the description.

The disease is caused by the fungus Septoria petroselini, which primarily affects this crop. Symptoms begin with the appearance of sunken, yellow-green or light brown irregularly shaped spots, often surrounded by a reddish-brown margin. As the disease progresses, the spots coalesce, causing extensive scorching of the leaf blade.

An important diagnostic feature is the formation of small black dots—the fungal pycnidia—in the center of the spots on both sides of the leaf. Lesions are localized on both the leaves and the petioles of the plant. There is no information regarding specific pathogen races, and parsley resistance to the disease is polygenic and associated with the biochemical profile of the plants.
