The root system of buckwheat secretes organic acids, such as citric, oxalic, and formic acids, which release phosphorus from compounds with calcium, iron, and aluminum. The crop's taproot penetrates the soil to a depth of up to 100 cm, effectively improving its aeration and water permeability.

The plant possesses phytoncide properties and shares no common diseases with cruciferous green manures, allowing it to be used for the reclamation of soil-sick areas. Buckwheat is characterized by rapid biomass accumulation within 60–85 days; however, it is a thermophilic crop and dies at temperatures below -2°C.
