Fagopyrum esculentum Moench
Buckwheat lodging is assessed on a five-point scale based on the inclination of the main stem before harvest. Crop resistance depends on the growth type and internode expression, with nitrogen excess significantly increasing the risk of losing an upright position.

To assess buckwheat lodging resistance, a visual scale from 0 to 5 points is used, reflecting the angle of inclination of the main stem. A score of 5 points corresponds to a vertical position, 4 points to a deviation of less than 30 degrees, 2 points to a deviation of 30–60 degrees, and 0 points to severe lodging with an angle of more than 60 degrees. The type of lodging and the ability of the plants to recover a vertical position are also taken into account.
Excessive nitrogen nutrition promotes excessive development of vegetative mass and elongation of internodes, which makes buckwheat stems less stable. In breeding, to solve this problem, determinate varieties with a terminal growth type are developed, which are characterized by lower height and increased resistance to lodging.
