Cultivation
Lupinus luteus L.
Yellow lupin is used as a green manure crop to improve the structure and health of sandy soils due to its high nitrogen fixation and the alkaloid content in its biomass.
In the reference 7 varieties crop Yellow lupin, where this is mentioned in the description.
Special varieties of yellow lupin with high alkaloid content are used for green manure. When incorporated into the soil, their biomass exerts an antiseptic effect, reducing the infectious load and susceptibility of subsequent crops, which distinguishes this plant from other, less alkaloid-rich legume species.
The plant possesses a deep root system, reaching up to two meters, which promotes aeration and the extraction of nutrients from lower soil horizons. In symbiosis with Bradyrhizobium lupini bacteria, the crop provides up to 70% of its nitrogen requirements, maintaining high efficiency in poor sod-podzolic soils.
