Variety traits

Peanut Vigor

Arachis hypogaea L.

A comprehensive indicator including seed germination energy and vegetative development intensity, affecting crop density and resource partitioning between foliage and gynophores.

In the reference 6 varieties crop Peanut, where this is mentioned in the description.

Peanut seed vigor determines the ability for rapid and uniform emergence during early sowing. Laboratory methods are used for evaluation: measuring seedling length, dry weight, and germination rate, as well as the electrical conductivity test of seed leachate, where lower values indicate better membrane integrity. Heavier seeds within the same variety usually possess a higher vigor index.

Plant vigor characterizes vegetative development energy, including height and branching. Excessive vegetative growth is undesirable, as it competes with reproductive function. Agrotechnical control is aimed at reallocating resources from excessive vegetative mass toward gynophore formation and subsequent pod set.
