The choice of method depends on the crop and the objectives of the analysis, whether for express assessment or establishing the commercial value of raw materials.
The realization of the genetic potential for sugar content depends on environmental conditions and agrotechnics. Light intensity and the sum of active temperatures, which determine the intensity of photosynthesis, have a significant influence, as do moisture availability and mineral nutrition, particularly potassium supply. During variety trials, breeding material is compared with standards, which allows for the identification of varieties with high stability of sugar accumulation under various climatic conditions.
