Suitability for cutting in chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum L.

A complex of morphological and physiological characteristics of a cultivar that determine flower quality, the potential for post-harvest development away from the mother plant, and compliance with transportation standards.

In the reference 230 varieties crop Chrysanthemum, where this is mentioned in the description.

For large-flowered chrysanthemums, suitability for cutting is determined by the colored bud phase with a diameter of 40–60 mm, and for small-flowered varieties — 10–20 mm. A key indicator is the ability of the buds to open fully in water or a solution within 5–7 days at a temperature of 22–24°C.

Technical evaluation of a cultivar includes stem strength, foliage density, and resistance to post-harvest wilting, which varies from 10 to 30 days. Furthermore, industrial suitability depends on the response to photoperiod, which allows for scheduling flowering, and sensitivity to nitrogen nutrition.

It is important to distinguish between ornamental chrysanthemums and vegetable varieties, such as 'Uzorchataya'. For the latter, suitability for cutting is determined by the green mass development phase in the period from stem elongation to the beginning of budding, which requires fundamentally different technological approaches compared to ornamental groups.
