The introduction of tolerant cultivars into rice farming practice ensures yield stability, potentially preventing losses of up to 2 tons per hectare on adverse soils. Breeding for this trait contributes to improving the overall adaptability of the crop, as mechanisms of ion homeostasis and antioxidant defense often provide complex resistance to drought and extreme temperatures.
