Variety traits
Vitis vinifera L.
An indicator of a grapevine's productivity, determined by the volume of clusters per unit area or per vine. It depends on methods of regulating shoot and cluster load to achieve a balance between berry quality and vine vigor.
In the reference 467 varieties crop Common grape vine, where this is mentioned in the description.
In viticulture, a distinction is made between potential, embryonic, and actual yield, which are assessed using the weight method or through structural analysis of productivity elements. The latter includes counting the number of shoots, their fruitfulness percentage, the number of clusters per shoot, and the average weight of a single cluster.
Yield values vary depending on production goals: from 6 t/ha when limiting the load for high-quality winemaking, to 40 t/ha and above for table varieties. The necessary balance between yield and quality is achieved through pruning, shoot thinning, and cluster thinning, which prevent overloading or underloading the vine.
The actual productivity of a vine strongly depends on the previous year's meteorological conditions, which determine the differentiation of overwintering buds, as well as on the current nutrient and water supply regime. Improper loading leads to a decrease not only in the current yield but also in the formation of fruit buds for the following year.
