Diseases
Vitis vinifera L.
A dangerous fungal disease of Vitis vinifera caused by the oomycete Plasmopara viticola. It is characterized by the appearance of oily spots on leaves, white fungal growth on inflorescences and berries, as well as necrosis and deformation of shoots.
In the reference 454 varieties crop Common grape vine, where this is mentioned in the description.
The causative agent of the disease is the obligate parasite Plasmopara viticola, which infects all green parts of the plant. On the leaves, symptoms appear as pale yellow translucent spots, on the underside of which a whitish sporulation layer develops in high humidity. Infected inflorescences turn brown and dry out, while young berries become covered in a fungal layer, darken, and fall off. At later stages, berries turn blue, shrivel, and mummify, a phenomenon known as the brown rot symptom.
Shoot infection is manifested by the development of sunken gray or brown spots, causing them to deform and twist, known as the shepherd's crook symptom. The species Vitis vinifera lacks inherent genetic resistance to the pathogen, so breeding is focused on the introgression of Rpv resistance genes from other species of the genus Vitis. Among the most significant loci used in resistance pyramiding programs are Rpv3, Rpv10, and Rpv12.
